Commonly associated with the likes of Cindy Crawford, the brown lip was a 90’s staple. Shades ranging from a Beige Nude to a Deep Brown were gracing the pouts of many women and the counters of major makeup brands.
I remember inheriting an Avon tube of lipstick from my Mother. It was a gorgeous mahogany brown colour and I thought it was fabulous. I used to wear it all the time. If a 9 year old can rock it, you certainly can.
With the likes of Kylie Jenner re-hashing the nineties trends, the Brown lip has again started to weasel its way back on to the lips of the modern day woman. The most of us embracing a nude brown, while the extravagant are waging full blown dirt-mouth kissers (I mean that in the most flattering way).
The two Brown shades I have been loving lately are The shade Salem from the LimeCrime ‘The Witches” velvetine collection and Savvy Ultra Matte Lip Colour in the shade Lights..Camera. Both of these shades are matte in consistency which, in my opinion, makes it easier to wear and are extremely long wearing.
Salem is a rich, deep brown with a slight red tinge and Lights..Camera is a wearable pink brown nude (also a great dupe for MAC- Velvet Teddy and is under $10).
I think the tip to wearing a brown lip is keeping the rest of the face neutral. Stick to minimal shadow with lots of mascara on the eyes and bronze up the face to avoid looking washed out. A peach toned blush also works well and a
lot little highlighter on the high points of the face will really tie the look together.
Would you rock a Brown, 90’s Pout?
