Latest Obsession: Charlotte Tilbury Cosmetics.

Charlotte Tilbury is a magnificent Celebrity makeup artist who is phenomenal at her job. Definitely on my list of favourite makeup artists, I have been waiting to get my hands on her signature makeup line for a long time. I had settled into the idea that I would have to wait until I travel to the UK, not knowing it was possible to get it sent to Australia. So when I was perusing net-a-porter.com (for a gift for my Mothers Birthday) and understandably I found myself sidetracked looking at the beauty section, I almost wet myself with excitement to find I could get Charlotte Tilbury cosmetics sent to me here in Oz.

I spent ages deciding which products to get, it was a very agonising decision. In the end I went with palette that started my obsession, the Dolce Vita. I was also surprised to find I could get the palette in a set consisting of the Dolce-Vita palette itself, a blusher, mascara, liquid liner, lip liner, lipstick and lip gloss, all tucked in a signature cosmetics pouch.

The packaging is so sleek and glamorous. I almost didn’t want to use them! I am also finding it hard to throw out the boxes in which the products came, they are gorgeous too!

The Dolce-Vita quad is incredibly pigmented and the shadows blend seamlessly. It is also great to have a guide to using them to create the signature eye look on the back of the packaging.

I think the blush is my favourite of the set. (Cheek to Chic swish and pop blusher in Ecstasy) The outer section is used on the top of the cheekbones to add structure and the centre colour is purposely for the apples of the cheeks.

I have been using the Full Fat Lashes 5 star Mascara daily since i got it. The Feline Flick eyeliner is lovely and thin and gets super close to the lash-line.

The Perfect nude pink lip is achieved with the Lip Cheat lipliner in Pillow Talk, the K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick in Penelope Pink and the Lip Lustre in seduction.

Apologies on how bad my skin looks in this picture! Having a skin freak-out at the mo.

I am really loving every product I got. The makeup bag you get if very roomy and super adorable. The price is a little exxy, but completely worth it in my opinion. I am saving my pennies to acquire more!

July Favourites.

Well it is that time of the month. Ew, what were you thinking, I was talking about Monthly favourites time. You’re Gross. *winky face*

Normally I film these things, but I decided to see how my Favourites fair on the ol’ blog. I also have a nasty case of Laryngitis which has now left me with no voice at all.

Lets dive right in, shall we?

IMG_0886

My first two favourites are skincare items. The I have absolutely been digging the Simple spotless skin anti-blemish moisturiser. This magic stuff has been a godsend for my skin. As you will know if you have been following me on here and on YouTube, I have to constantly battle with my acne prone skin. So a moisturiser that also fights acne is something I am going to be interested in! I do love the brand Simple in general. Their products are gentle and effective.

The second skincare item is an eye cream from Indeed Laboratories called Eysilix. This eye cream is extremely lightweight yet moisturising and a little goes a long way. My concealer sits wonderfully over top of this product. I love the serum Hydraluron by this brand and the eye cream definitely doesn’t disappoint.

A rediscovered favourite is the Fragrance Allure Sensuelle by Chanel. I have been wearing Balenciaga’s Florabotanica scent for months now and I thought it was time for a bit of a change in the winter months (also, it was getting to the point that people were smelling my perfume and automatically knowing it was me without seeing me first). My Partner Tristan bought this for me on our Anniversary, I was so proud he picked up such a lovely scent all by himself! It is a heavier scent, very sexy and very Chanel.

A favourite that has not left my side is my Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Blonde. No other brow pencil compares in my opinion. I have posted a comparison with the Anastasia Brow wiz previously, defs check that out!

A mascara I have been loving is the YSL Shocking mascara. I dont know what it is about this mascara, it is just on point. I haven’t used a mascara that separates and volumises like this product. I have it currently in sample size however I will positively be purchasing the full size on completion.

Lipstick wise, I haven’t been able to stop using MAC Kinda sexy. Ever since my obsession with finding the Kylie Jenner Lip first began, I have been using the shade daily. It is the perfect nineties beige nude, I am IN LOVE.

I have also been loving the Bobbi Brown skin foundation. I am in the shade Porcelain. This foundation is light but covers brilliantly. It has been my daily go-to, I also like to use this to mix with my other foundations to lighten them for use in the winter months. I was a bit skeptical at first, but this foundation actually does look like skin! It also lasts really well on my oily skin.

For my nails this winter I have been reaching for my Mecca Cosmetica nail polish in the shade Acai. It is the perfect deep berry shade. I really love the formulation of these polishes, they last well on my nails (which is a big deal in my day job!).

What have you been loving this month?

So you are feeling a tad ill…

For the last couple of days I have been suffering from a nice flu. Rocking a super sensual man-voice and nasal passages so blocked I can barely breathe, its been crappy lovely. In an effort to recuperate and not continuously wallow in my own self pity ( Lets face it, we all revert back to 5 years old when ill.) I decided to dip into my bag of tricks for making myself feel better and I thought I would share some of them with you.

1. Rest.

This one is just common sense, really. Your body is fighting off a virus so our parents were right in making us stay in bed. I am lucky in the fact that I work during the day for my family Business and my dad is a super germ-a-phobe. Therefor, I am quarantined and ordered home to recover.

2. Keep up fluids.

Another pulled from the mum cabinet. This is very important. Even if you can’t stomach water, drink tea or anything else you can bring yourself to swallow.

That sounds slightly dirty. Moving on.

3. Medicate.

Have some painkillers. If you have a sore throat, use an anti-inflammatory spray. I have never been one to ride something out. I’m all about elevating as much pain as possible.

Now that I have covered all the essential tips, here are some personal tips I do when I am feeling less than mediocre.

4. make a smoothie.

Chuck as many healthy things in as you wish. I find it much easier to down a smoothie over a meal when I am feeling sick. My favourite is a mix of berries, Banana, spinach, Coconut milk, Almond milk, Greek yogurt, Honey and a splash of store bought green juice.

5. Yet, eat a Big Mac if you feel like it.

I tend to stop eating when I am sick, but I also have weird cravings. Which can lead to my Boyfriend getting me weird things at odd times. I think if you are feeling like a big mac, your damn body obviously needs it (contradictory somewhat to the smoothie tip, but hey -the heart wants what the heart wants.)

6. Cuddle a pet.

I have 4 rescue cats and for some reason, they know when I am sick. It doesn’t matter if I am in bed or on the couch I will have at least 2 of them laying with me at all times. It is like a furry hot water bottle, you really cannot fault a good animal hug.

7. Take a long shower.

When I am sick the only place I feel somewhat human is in the shower. I dont know if I am part mermaid (I wish, I am a Pisces!) but the water seems to rejuvenate me. Spend as long as you need in there, or until the hot water runs out.

8. Apply a face mask.

You are probably thinking, ‘What? That’s the last thing I feel like doing” but I tell you now, it will make you feel better. Why not get a product like the Biore 1 minute self heating Charcoal mask. I apply this while I am in the shower and have the energy to do so.

9. Watch a few good movies.

Disney movies or whatever will make you feel better. I have been loving watching the Disney Movie channel on Foxtel. I have also watched a few Brat-Pack 80’s movies such as St Elmo’s Fire and the Breakfast club. Oh that Judd Nelson, #babe.

10. Keep the makeup to a minimum.

If you have to leave the house while sick, keep things simple. I know I barely have the energy to put on pants while sick, let alone a face full of makeup. Maybe just try a tinted moisturizer, mascara and a cream blush.

What is your Feel better Remedy when Ill?

Lets talk contour.

Contouring is the perfect way to give the face structure and dimension when applying makeup. Blanking out your face with foundation and concealer can diminish the natural hollows of the face, this is where adding colour back in is most important, to avoid looking ghostly and washed out. Contouring is the method of darkening the points of your face that would be shaded if you were in direct sunlight. On most faces these points include the temples of the forehead, under the cheekbones (hollows of the cheek if you were pulling a pouty face), under the jaw line and either side of the nose.

Contouring can be achieved with both cream and powder products. For a more subtle contour, I would go with a cream product. Some companies have stick contour colours, but for a beginner I would go with a stick foundation a few shades deeper than your natural skin tone, such as the Maybelline FitMe stick foundation.

I personally prefer to contour with powder products. If I am aiming for subtle dimension I will go with a pressed powder a few shades darker than my skin tone. In summer, I like to use a light matte bronzer. It is always important to use a matte powder, we are trying to essentially hide parts of the face, using a shimmery colour would attract attention to that area. I would keep the shimmer for highlighting.

When creating a dramatic look I love using cool toned, ashy contour colours. I find that they seem to suit my fair skin and dont make me look like I have a muddy streak down the side of my face. I have really been loving the NARS contour palette in Olympia and as a cheaper alternative, I do love using NYX blush in Taupe. If I am absolutely going to town on my makeup, I do also like to use a grey/purple eyeshadow to contour, such as Tease from the Naked2 palette or Makeup Geek’s “unexpected’ eyeshadow.

My golden rule with contouring is build the colour. If you go in with a brush loaded with product, it is going to make the blending process a lot harder. I would also recommend investing in a good contour brush if you can. I love my Real Techniques contour brush, it is relatively inexpensive and gets right into the hollows of the face. A fluffy eyeshadow brush can also be used for a strong contour. If you are looking for super definition, try holding a business card just under the cheekbone to get that crisp line and then blend out from there. Another thing to keep in mind when blending is always blend in an upwards direction. Never bring the colour down towards the chin, this will make the face look sunken and drag the face down.IMG_0878

New in- Benefit “They’re Real” Push Up Liner

20140706-170323-61403698.jpg

The new “it” liner.

I had seen a lot of hype on many beauty blogs, YouTube channels and Instagram surrounding the new Push up Liner from Benefit. A gel liner in Pen form, the first of its kind.

I tend to steer away from Gel liner. It is notorious for transferring on my hooded eyes so I normally stick to liquid eyeliner. Curiosity however, got the better of me with this product. I figured with such a precise applicator I would be able to get close enough to the lash line to prevent tranferring to my eyelid. I had seen demonstrations of the liner, and the appeal of an easy Cat-eye was too much for me to resist.

Living in a Country town, I knew it would be hard for me to get my hands on the new launch. Luckily, one of my good friends was in Melbourne and was kind enough to brave the crazyness of Myer to pick one up for me (Thanks Bec!)

20140706-170324-61404466.jpg

The formula is quite pigmented and creamy and the tip of the pen is soft, flexible, extremely thin rubber, allowing it to get close to the lash-line with ease.  The pen is lightweight and long enough to have a steady grip. I did not experience any flaking and it took a decent amount of eye makeup remover to get it off at the end of the day.

Much to my disappointment, the gel did transfer to my upper eyelid. Although not as badly as other Gel liners I have used (possibly due to being able to get close to the lash-line). I will be trying a black shadow over the top of the liner to see if it will set the liner and prevent transferring.

Overall I do love the concept and the product itself. I think it will be brilliant on a majority of eye-shapes that do not experience Transferring. The team at Benefit always do a great job of marketing and the aura around this Launch was great. I do think this is one of those products you will need to try for yourself, as I think it will work differently on everyone.

Winter Skincare Menu

Lately, the skin I have known for the last 24 years has left me rather puzzled. The normality in my body has been thrown out the window and I have been left with a complexion I find extremely foreign. My limbs are drier than the most barren of deserts and my face, which normally contains most of the world oil stores- is quite dehydrated. I can only put this change down to the dramatic drop in temperature ( to reference Game of Thrones- Winter isn’t just coming, it has come.) or I have had my skin texture messed with by Aliens.

While the dramatist in me wishes it was the latter of the two (hello, movie franchise), I have had to adapt my skincare routine to counteract the changes. I have also mentioned many a time that I suffer from acne, so I have continued to use a lot of the products I was already using in my routine. In my morning skincare routine I have introduced the Simple Spotless Skin anti-blemish Moisturiser to give me the extra moisture my skin needs, while also treating any sneaky spots. My lips have also been chronically chapped (sah not cute) so most mornings i tend to slather on a generous layer of Paw Paw balm to keep my lips hydrated. Lately I have been loving the Suvana Certified Organic Paw Paw & honey Balm. This Balm is natural and does not contain chemicals that can sometimes be found in Paw Paw balms/ointments.

The skin on my arms and legs has been hideously dry, flaky and irritated. I have found that even my tried and true body creams are not remedying the situation. Fear not, I have found solace in Palmer’s Intensive Relief concentrated cream. This moisturiser is seriously rich, thick and soothing. Also, it contains no fragrance, colour, parabens or phthalates and will heal the skin while not messing with the scent of your perfume (is it just me or is anyone else completely crazy with that?).

Most of the new additions have been slotted seamlessly into my evening skincare routine. The addition of a moisturising toner (People for Plants Mist Toner), Serum (Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron) and night cream (Antipodies Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream) as well as an intensive lip repair treatment (Blistex intensive repair) has really been working miracles on my skin. I have even noticed a change in the amount of breakouts I have been getting.

What is your Winter Skincare staple?
